Introduction to Creative Life Story Work
Introduction to Creative Therapeutic Life Story Work - Foundation Practitioner Training
Course Description
This two-day foundation level experiential training is designed for qualified creative therapists and professionals working therapeutically with adopted and care-experienced children and young people. Facilitated by Mary Rose Brady and Dr. Patricia Watts, the course introduces participants to the core principles and practices of Creative Life Story Work (CLSW) — a trauma-informed, creative, and relational approach that helps children connect their past, present, and future stories in a safe, regulated, and meaningful way. In line with NICE Guidelines for Looked-After Children and Young People (2021), Life Story Work is recognised as an essential component of care planning for all children with a plan for adoption. This course supports creative therapists and allied professionals to facilitate this process safely and effectively within consistent and trusting relationships. Blending theory with hands-on creative exploration, participants will learn how artmaking, metaphor, and storytelling can be used to support emotional regulation, understanding, and connection. Importantly, this training serves as the essential preparatory course for progression to the CARES Model of Creative Life Story Work (24-hour CPD), providing the theoretical, ethical, and reflective foundations for advanced practice.
