Course Description
This one-day course, facilitated by Associate Trainer Rachel Yang, offers an engaging historical overview of doll-making and its profound therapeutic potential. From their origins in Palaeolithic rituals to their role in contemporary creative therapy, dolls have long reflected human experiences, societal changes, and personal identities. Participants will explore diverse theoretical perspectives and engage with the work of key writers to gain a deeper understanding of the symbolic and therapeutic significance of dolls within creative practice. The course will cover: Tracing the evolution of dolls from ritual objects to playthings and examining the blurred boundary between dolls as toys and symbolic artefacts Considering how dolls have mirrored fashion trends, technological advancements, and social shifts, and discussing their importance across cultures and communities Exploring the use of dolls in creative therapy as metaphorical representations of the self and others, investigating the symbolism and meaning embedded in doll-making and its therapeutic applications Gaining insight into the historical and cultural significance of dolls Understanding the symbolism of doll-making through the theoretical lenses of projection and symbolism, attachment and object relations, narratives, neuroplasticity, somatic and embodied experience, identity formation and self-representation, cognitive restructuring, and social constructionism Examining practical doll-making techniques using fabrics, found objects, and cardboard Theoretical foundations include: Attachment and Object Relations • Narrative Approaches to Therapy • Sensory-Motor Development • Identity Formation and Self-Representation • Cognitive Restructuring • Social Constructionism By integrating these perspectives, participants will deepen their understanding of the therapeutic potential of doll-making. This multifaceted approach supports a nuanced exploration of clients’ inner worlds, enabling greater insight, emotional healing, and personal growth. Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: Reflect on the historical development of dolls and integrate key theories related to their use in therapeutic contexts Design and adapt doll-based techniques for use within specific therapeutic practices and across a variety of client populations Course Cost Self-funded: £100 Employer-funded: £130 Payment is made via invoice.
Cancellation Policy
The Centre for Creative Therapeutic Practice (TCCTP) Refund and Cancellation Guidance Policy and Conditions Joining information for all of TCCTP's courses will normally be sent 1-week prior to the start date - please check your junk & spam folders if you have not seen this information - contacting the office on the day or evening before the start date will not always be responded to prior to the course starting. All cancellations must be submitted in writing to hello@tcctp.org. Cancellations made one month or before will be refunded in full minus £10 administration fee. Less than one month but more than 14 days before the course will be charged at 50%. Less than 14 days' notice will be fully chargeable. Please Note • We require full payment by the date stated on your invoice (unless you have agreed a payment plan). If payment is not received you will be removed from the course list and will have to re-book. • Programmes are subject to change. • It is the attendees responsibility to check their email including junk and spam folders for joining details. • There is a possibility that the course/event may be cancelled due to insufficient numbers, unforeseen circumstances, or force majeure. In the case of insufficient numbers or unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be offered. In the case of force majeure such as the Coronavirus pandemic, alternative dates will be offered. If these dates are not suitable, a partial refund will be offered taking into account cost of overheads • If TCCTP offer face-2-face training - Please do not book any travel or accommodation until you have received confirmation of your booking from TCCTP. We will not be liable for this cost in the event you are not booked onto the course/event. • Where fees for attendees are being paid by a third party (e.g. employer). TCCTP will endeavour to collect the course fee through invoicing. However, where the third party fails to make payment, the course attendee will remain liable for said fees if cancellation is not made on time within our terms (see cancellation our policy above).
